Hugo Pereira (2001), natural from Ponte de Lima (Portugal), started his studies with Mário Costa, followed by Bruno André Silva and Álvaro Cortez at Academia de Música de Ponte de Lima. In 2015, he joined the percussion class of Jean-François Lézé, Bruno Guia, Paulo Costa and Luís Bittencourt at the Escola Profissional de Música de Viana do Castelo.

 

Since 2019, Hugo has been studying at Codarts Rotterdam, in the class of Chris Leenders, Hans Leenders and Ramon Loormans. Besides the main teachers, he has lessons with Murk Jiskoot, René Spierings, Fedor Teunisse, Jorge Sanz Pineda, Job van Duijnhoven, Vincent Houdijk, Nicolas Suter, Nils Fischer, Maxim Zettel, and Alper Kekeç.

 

During his studies, Hugo had the opportunity to have a variety of masterclasses and private lessons with Nick Woud, Bart Quartier, Nuno Aroso, Bart Jansen, Emmanuel Séjourné, Tchiki Duo, Rui Sul Gomes, Pedro Carneiro, Bruno Costa, Richard Buckley and Markus Leoson. Regarding orchestral context, he has worked with several conductors, such as Ivan Meylemans, Javier Viceiro, Jordi Francés, Rafa Agulló Albors, Peter Askim, Hans Casteleyn, Ernst Schell, Douglas Bostock, Sander Tappen, among others.

Hugo has collaborated with the APROARTE orchestra (Portugal), BSP Júnior - Portugal (National Youth Symphonic Band), Orquestra Con Spirito (Portugal), Mōtus Ensemble (NL/PT), Mallet Collective (NL), Havelok (NL) and Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest (NL).


Hugo has participated in different competitions, winning the 3rd prize at the Idipsumúsica Competition 2017 (Portugal) with the percussion duo “Untime” (Hugo Pereira and Pedro Pinto); 1st Prize Winner Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours 2022 with Kāna Trio (Hugo Pereira, Rens Rutten and João Sequeira) and the “Short Film Prize” at the International Percussion Competition of Luxembourg 2022 with Kāna Trio. Recently, the trio was selected as a finalist of the Dutch Classical Talent 2024/2025.
